Last Saturday we went to Village Market for the Kitenge Festival. As it's name suggests, the festival was a celebration of all things made of kitenge, yet another type of African fabric typically printed with bright colors using traditional batik techniques. Among the many stalls of brightly colored clothes, bags, jewelry, and shoes, we ran into a women who made lampshades with kitenges. As we have yet to move into our home, we couldn't commit to buying any but I couldn't help becoming inspired to explore and brainstorm about future lighting options.
