This past Saturday, t and i spent the day furniture shopping for our new home. The day started innocently enough with what we expected to be a quick perusal of furniture vendors on Ngong Rd. A lead for curtain and uphostery fabric then took us to Kenyatta market but all we got was nyama choma (kenyan bbq) and more advice leading us to Gikomba market (pictured above). After squeezing through columns upon columns of kaleidoscopic fabric and some rather dramatic bargaining, we successfully managed to have two sofa cushions made by a man possessing the most impressive foam cutting and sewing skills i have ever seen. We received even more leads pointing towards Eastleigh for curtains but we decided to end our home decor scavenger hunt as daylight was quickly becoming scarce. While we only had two sofa cushions to show for our day's efforts, orders for a couch, bed, table, and dining chairs are in the works. i can't wait to see what our carpenters come up with!
